Soul Midwifery
END OF LIFE SUPPORT
"Having a soul midwife to support Mum allowed me to be a daughter again rather than a carer"
It is my deepest honour and privilege to offer my care as a non-religious, non-medical companion and support for either individuals with a life-limiting illness or their family and friends.
We are encouraged to bring life into the world with a birth plan but we are conditioned not to think about death, the dying process.
The support I offer takes many different forms and is always decided by the individual and/or their family. It can include, talking through the natural stages of dying and offering ideas on how best to support someone. Visiting someone to offer Shiatsu or gentle touch.
Being available to listen to both family and/or an individual or simply another pair of hands. I can also advise on how to hold a vigil, set up a circle of care, or simply offer companionship to someone through what can often be a lonely and isolating time.
Tending to The Dying: an award-winning training
Do you have a loved one with a life-limiting illness? Do you work with the elderly? Or in a hospice? Do you want to know more about what happens at the end of life? Or do you work as a funeral director, celebrant, nurse, or doctor?
If the answer to any of these is yes then Tending to the Dying training is for you.
Tending to the Dying is an award winning training aimed at both individuals and groups - including but not exclusively to private individuals, care homes, hospices, prisons.
It is the basic, nuts and bolts, of Soul Midwifery and aims to instill a concrete understanding of the four stages of the dying process, up to and including the active dying stages and the last breath. It aims to give non medical, non religious ideas as to how to support a loved one, client or resident and at its essence it allows us to be present with another human to human at this most profound of moments in anyone's life - death.
When I teach my Tending to The Dying course, it allows people to feel deeply connected to life.
I passionately believe that in learning the stages of dying as described in the course we can learn to hold people through this time. Feeling empowered and informed helps to alleviate the fear so often associated with the dying process.
WHO IS TENDING TO THE DYING TRAINING SUITABLE FOR?
Individuals
I run a number of Tending to the Dying days over the course of the year which are open to individuals.
These days will give you an understanding of the four stages of dying as taught by Felicity Warner founder of Soul Midwives.
You will learn how you can support each stage, through practical tips and creative ideas. It will empower you to be present and hold a loved one through these stages. You will also learn gentle touch, acupoints for support, vigil, memory work, and oils.
ORGANISATIONS/GROUPS
I offer the Tending to the Dying training as part of the CPD (continued professional development) for an organisation's staff and groups.
It is ideally suited to groups that work within the sector, district nurses, carers, care homes, GPs, hospice care, cancer nurses, and hospital workers.
The course can be run in-person or online via Zoom. It can be run as a day or over a course of two evenings.
